Formalities for Admission

I. Alien Registration

Under the Alien Registration Law, all foreigners who stay in Japan have to register at the municipal office of the city (town, village) where they live within 90 days from their arrival.

Though the registration period is 90 days, you had better register as soon as you settle. For Alien Registration Certificate is necessary for the procedures at university just after enrolled. After the Certificate is issued, don't forget to carry it whenever you go out.

When items recorded in Alien Registration Certificate are to change, or when you lose the Certificate, you have to report to the city (town, village) office and go through the procedure needed.

    Things necessary for the Alien Registration

    Passport
    Two photos
    (taken within six months, 3.5cmX4.5cm)

    ¦If a child is born in Japan, complete alien registration for the newborn child within 60 days of the date of birth.


II. Extension or Renewal of Stay Period

Before the expiration of stay period, you have to apply for its extension at Hiroshima Immigration Bureau, Okayama Branch.
Applications are acceptable from two months before the expiration.
You can apply for it at the International Affairs Office, so please come to International Affairs Office with necessary documents two months before the expiration.

    Certificate of Research Contents
    (Only for Research Student)
    Passport
    Copy of Alien Registration Certificate (both sides)
    Fee : 4,000 Yen (revenue stamp)
    Documents that prove you will have adequate financial support throughout your stay in Japan
    (i.e. certificate of scholarship, certificate of your bank balance)


III. Temporary Leave from Japan and Re-entry

When international students temporarily go home or travel abroad during vacations, they must report to the section in charge of international student at the faculty or graduate school they belong to, and then go through the procedure for re-entry permit at Hiroshima Immigration Bureau, Okayama Branch. If you leave Japan without permission, you will have to obtain a visa again on re-entering into Japan.

    Fee :One-entry 3,000 yen (revenue stamp)
      Repeated-entry 6,000 yen (revenue stamp)

IV. Out-of-Status Activities

International Students with status of residence "College Student" are prohibited to get a job in Japan. You may work part-time with permission, however, to supply academic or living expenses in Japan, unless the job interferes with your studies.
If you need to work part-time, you have to get permission for activities out of the status.
Please contact the International Affairs Office. Follow the rules below when you work part-time.

You can not work longer than 28 hours a week. (Special Auditors can not work longer than 14 hours a week.) During the spring, summer and winter vacations, working hours are limited to 8 hours a day.

You can not work in the entertainment and amusement businesses such as bars, cabarets, pachinko parlors etc.
